Issue 145    Dec 1st   to   March 1st   2020

Hungerford Town Band have had a sight lull before the Christmas storm The band have just performed their annual Poppy Concert raising over £615.00 for Hungerford’s Royal British legion Poppy Appeal.’ This is a charity very close to our hearts and has been performed for over 20 consecutive years.

As I write this article, we are beginning preparations for Remembrance Sunday and hoping for fine weather for the Parade and Service of Remembrance.

Turning to Christmas the band is looking forward to its major concert of the festive period. Our Christmas concert is one of the cornerstones of Christmas in Hungerford. We are preparing an exciting and entertaining programme for Saturday 14th December to be held in Hungerford’s Corn Exchange (Town Hall). Tickets are £7.00 and are available from Crown Needlework or any member of the band and of course, you are welcome to pay at the door on the evening itself.

The band can also be heard at Hungerford Extravaganza on Friday 13th December and the Town Carol service on Sunday 15th December in St. Lawrence’s Church at 6.30pm.

Additionally, we will be entertaining shoppers in both Hungerford and Newbury during the Christmas run-in. Why not come and say “hello” and request a carol?

Turning to the future the band will be performing at the London and Southern Counties Regional Championships on Saturday 21st March. The test piece this time round is a brand-new commission be Andrew Baker entitled “Endurance” and tells the epic story of Ernest Shackleton’s journey across the Southern Ocean and subsequent rescue of his crew. It is a very descriptive piece and the band are already looking forward to preparing it.

Meanwhile Hungerford Town Band wishes all its friends and loyal supporters a very Happy Christmas and healthy new year.
