HUNGERFORD CANCER SUPPORT GROUP

Hoping that our current group members are keeping safe and well and managing to cope in these strange times.

And just to let you know we are still here, obviously not able to hold our monthly meetings.

We shall review the situation in the new year. In the meantime we wish everyone well  and if any regular members want to contact us, and also anyone who maybe interested in joining us in the future.

Dear Editor

We are delighted to inform you that we are rebranding our charity name to TuVida on 4th September 2020. The rationale for the rebrand is simple.

We currently operate under varying names across the country because many of us have come together through mergers over a period of several years. We all started out as either Crossroads Care (over 30 years ago!), Princess Royal Trust for Carers and latterly Carers Trust. You will be familiar with at least one of the listed areas below serving in your locality, but we are now one registered charity.  All of the previously autonomous charities listed below joined together to become part of a larger charity, to further develop local services and support to beneficiaries during such austere times.

Carers Trust East Midlands                       Crossroads Care North Notts

Crossroads Care Harrogate,                      Craven & York Carers Trust  EHHR

Carers Trust Thames                                  Berkshire Carers Hub

Wokingham Outreach Carers Service       Crossroads Care Reading

Crossroads Care South Central

We are a workforce of employees and volunteers of over 800, and serve several thousands of beneficiaries. We now feel it’s the right time that we switch to a new operating name that reflects who we are, and what we do, in every location that we work in across England.

TuVida translated literally means “your life”, and our new slogan will be “supporting your life” and localised to the specific area where we are operating e.g. Supporting your life in West Sussex..   new website on Friday 4th September, please visit us on www.tuvida.org

What is Social Prescribing?

Social prescribing is a way of working with people to address their non-medical needs and help them to take control of their health and well-being. It recognises that a wide range of non-medical issues can affect people’s health.

Would you like to?

Improve your general health and wellbeing
Reduce feelings of isolation
Discover local self-help groups, clubs and befriending agencies
Volunteer your time and experiences, and get involved in your local community
Explore support for housing, employment, benefits, debt & legal advice

How do I access this service?

Talk to your GP or health professional about how you feel social prescribing may benefit you. They will put you in touch with the link worker for the surgery (Rebecca) who is there to listen to you, and put you in touch with the people and activities that might help you feel better.

Christmas Day Lunch

For the last four years, about 30 guests and a small army of helpers have spent Christmas Day enjoying lunch together in the Methodist Church Hall.  This year will obviously have to be different.  We don’t yet know what we will be able to do, but we are determined to make

Christmas Day special for those who would otherwise be alone.

To help us plan and work through possibilities,

please contact us if you would be interested in taking part as a helper or guest.

You don’t have to commit at this stage, but to find out more, please contact us by email    steward.hungerfordmethodist@gmail.com or  phone Catherine on 07717 133021

This event is organised by Hungerford Methodist Church as a service to the local community.  Thanks to generous support, we are able to provide everything for our guests on the day free of charge.
