Recovery in Mind
This season has been like no other in the long history of the club, and there are still many uncertainties before things get back to normal, the recent spate of corona virus infections having proved a further setback, so that we are still not sure when, and under what conditions we shall eventually re-start.
Last season was brought to an abrupt halt back in March when we played our last league game, although it was some time before it was confirmed that the National League season(apart from the play-offs) was over, although all the leagues below us in the pyramid had already been declared null and void, We were in a relegation spot at the time but it was subsequently confirmed that there would be no relegation from our division and we should therefore continue in the National League South for yet another season, a level which no other West Berks club has ever achieved
There were other changes to come when manager Ian Herring resigned, but we were lucky to be able to appoint Danny Robinson, the former Thatcham manager as his successor, and he soon set about signing many of the previous players and brought in some new talent, including a number of former Thatcham players, some of whom had previously played for us. The new squad already been training and played a practice match behind closed doors , on August 1st.
Off the pitch, a marvellous band of volunteers have done a great deal of work on the ground to ensure that everything is ready when we eventually kick off the new season and there is an air of optimism at Bulpit Lane.
