Hungerford - Opens for business
Posted 11th June 2020
Hungerford reopens its shops from 15th June, with new safety measures being put in place along High Street and Bridge Street. We welcome back custom and encourage your support for our local traders through these challenging times.
The Town Council has been consulting with local retailers over concerns about social distancing in the town as business resumes. It is necessary to widen certain areas so pedestrians can pass each other safely and leave room for queuing on the pavement.
The following temporary changes will be implemented: Click for Pdf map, Use browser back arrow to return
A few parking spaces are being suspended. These being the 3-4 spaces outside Coffee1, the bus stop outside the Kebab shop and about half a space on Bridge Street.
A series of signs will be erected, and social distancing markings will be sprayed on the footways to help pedestrians to keep 2m apart.
West Berks Council will be implementing these changes and attached is a plan of where the new signage and ground markings will be placed, along with the location of the suspended parking spaces.
Town Council volunteers will be on hand with a measuring wheel and tape if help is needed to mark-up areas outside shops for queuing.
A variety of posters available to businesses to help guide their customers around their shop safely, are being supplied free of charge. These are available to collect from Hungerford Town Council office on Fridays between 9am and 12 noon and on Mondays between 9.30am and 11.30am. If you cannot make these times please email email@example.com and we will arrange a drop off.
Our public toilets are also due to open on 15th June.
Whilst all the above should be in place for Monday we will continue to press for a reduction in the speed limit to 20mph of which many traders and residents have expressed support
