Event Diary  2020

The events below give you the opportunity to come out on practical tasks, learn new skills, meet new people and, above all, enjoy yourself. The tasks usually begin around 10am and finish by 3pm but you are very welcome to come for as much time as you wish to give during these hours. Please wear suitable footwear and clothing, and bring a packed lunch if you are coming for the full day. Hot drinks are usually provided mid-morning, as are the necessary tools.                                                                  

Sun-16-Feb-20  2.00 pm A LOOK AT THE FAR EAST (of Hermitage Parish). Or, a Walk around Hermitage Parish.   Starting and finishing in Everington Lane, Hermitage SU519 737 where there is limited parking in lay-bys on either side of the road.  Further parking can be found in the woods by the entry sign to the village, about 500m to the west. We will see ancient landscape features including parish boundary tracks and banks, woodland, trees and pollards, quarries, water meadows, interesting farm buildings and a rebuilt Norman church. The walk is about 4.5 miles long and contains a few steep hills.  There are also several stiles on the walk and surfaces can be muddy and uneven.

Sun-08-Mar-20  10.30 am – 1.00 pm Bucklebury Common. Heathland management. Join the Bucklebury Heathland Group to help maintain this important heathland habitat. Meet at Angels Corner SU 550 688

Tue-24-Mar-20  10.00 Stanford Dingley. Riverbank clearance. Clearing selected trees and scrub along the riverbank of the Pang to allow light into the bed of the river. Park on the Byway which runs South from Bucklebury Road in Stanford Dingley opposite the entrance to Pangfield Farm SU566 716

Sun-19-Apr-20   14.00     “Woodland flowers, bluebells and disused railway line.

We will be looking at the natural history of a disused railway line as well as ancient man-made agricultural and forestry landscape features. Park in Hampstead Norreys village hall car park.  SU527 762                                

Tue-21-Apr-20   10.00     Winterbourne Wood, Stool protection and woodland maintenance. Park in the entrance to the wood. SU447 717

Tue-05-May-20 10.00     Grove Pit Common, Leckhampstead. Scrub clearance on this parish wildlife site. Access the common via the track which leaves the B4494 west at Cotswold Farm.  SU440 777   Please leave your vehicles at the bottom of the track and walk up to the common. Vehicles carrying tools and refreshments please drive directly to the task site.

Tue-16-Jun-20   10.00     Grimsbury Castle, #1 Hermitage. Clearing invasive rhododendron from this ancient hill fort.                Parking near the Estate house at the castle – by the interpretation board.  SU511 723
